sunburn remedy AKA magic

so I’m sitting in my bathroom waiting to slather myself in coconut oil so I can take a nap and wake up in less burning pain than I am now. I try and avoid going out in public with sunburns especially after moving to Hawaii because is there anything else that just screams tourist who forgot to put on sunscreen!? I might as well have a Segway and a tacky Hawaiian shirt. mean. I know. anyways I don’t like using sunscreen because I need my vitamin D and I’m not a fan of all the unnatural harsh stuff in it so I usually use coconut oil or treat myself afterwards since my skin isn’t fair I usually don’t burn easily. but be careful if you do! You’re body is telling you something when it is burnt so please try and avoid that.

But this is for after you unfortunately fail at protecting yourself from the sun. this works miracles and your sunburn will be gone by the next day!!!

All you need…..

Apple Cider Vinegar

Coconut oil

washcloth with a little water on it

Standing in your shower or outside or somewhere decent, pour a small amount of apple cider vinegar and dab on sunburned skin it won’t burn I promise it actually feels amazing! keep applying Apple cider vinegar and dabbing allover your body. on the really bad parts I usually just pour a little acv on it then rub it in.

Then wait.

Once you’re dry slather on the coconut oil! one layer should be good but then one more before you go to bed and another the next day. Remember to protect yourself from long exposures in the sun especially if your fair and learn from your mistakes;) …..and thank god for Apple cider vinegar

NOTE: It also helps to sit in front of a fat or air conditioner for a while to cool your skin down.

DIY shampoo & conditioner

So I’ve been out of shampoo for a few days and instead of buying some more (Castile soap gets pretty pricey) I decided to try and make my own. my hair is pretty curly so I try and only wash it every 2 days because it’s pretty sensitive to oiliness in shampoos and conditioners and a lot of diy ones usually are based around Castile soap (don’t have) or coconut milk.

I heard good things about baking soda and and apple cider vinegar rinse so I made a big batch and gave it a go.

I just use two random old bottles I found in my shower because then you can basically just squirt/pour it all over your head in the shower.

you don’t have to add the essential oils if you don’t have them but I highly recommend! they make your hair smell amazing and counteract the baking soda and apple cider vinegar rinse.

(this recipe is for a whole bottle)

Shampoo:

4 tablespoons baking soda

1 1/2 cup water

about 8-10 drops essential oil (I used lavender)

Pour all ingredients into a bottle and shake. In the shower pour a decent amount of the mixture over head and massage really good into scalp. I left mine to sit a few minutes because my hair was not the cleanest and then rinse really good!

Conditioner:

1 part apple cider vinegar

3 parts water

8-10 drops essential oil

Combine and shake again! In shower after shampooing pour all over head from roots to ends (you don’t need the whole bottle it should last you). Run hands through to make sure it’s full saturated and then let sit for a minute or two before fully rinsing out. Your hair may still feel tangly afterwards but it won’t when it’s dry trust me I’m the tangle queen.

so shiny! I don’t ever brush my hair either.

hclf lentil dhal

Yes, I know how to cook non raw stuff;) this is one of my favorite go-to easy meals that I make all the time for dinner since the rest of my family is not vegan.  I can whip it up this mouthwatering dish pretty quick now because it’s usually my go-to when I’m starving and craving a cooked meal;)

I pair it with jasmine rice, cucumber, and tomato as well as a side of greens which makes it phenomenal:)

(two pictures two nights in a row)

1/2 cup green lentils

1/2 cup red lentils

1 cup water

1 cup vegetable broth

1 teaspoon cumin

1teaspoon turmeric

1 tablespoon garam masala

1/4 teaspoon salt

Combine all in a pot and cover. Yep, it’s that easy! simmer over medium heat until it comes to a boil and then reduce heat to medium low and keep covered for 20+ minutes until lentils are at desired tenderness. The longer you leave the lentils on the burner and adding 1/2 cup more water when mostly evaporated makes the lentils super tender and soupy! pour on top of jasmine rice and top with mixed greens, tomatoes, and cucumbers. enjoy!

Easy raw vegan zucchini pesto pasta

hi guys:) just started my 100% raw vegan journey today woooo! I have been off and on vegan for the past year but really started doing it this New Years so almost 7 months high raw vegan for me:)

For dinner I just made my first zucchini pasta that I actually LIKED (I’ve tried many but never been a fan) and I’m so happy I am finding more ways that I actually like and enjoy eating my vegetables. I’ve always been know for my kale so hint hint usually an ingredient in my recipes but can also be substituted for spinach or other dark leafy vegetables in most cases.

ANYWAYS…

The best raw vegan pesto zucchini pasta I have ever had/made/seen:

(excuse the messy workspace)

serves 2 (but can easily be adjusted!!)

2 zucchini

1 cup basil

3/4 cup kale (small handful)

2 gloves garlic

pinch of salt

2 TBSP water

1/2 cup raw pumpkin seeds

1 tomato

nutritional yeast for sprinkling

In a food processor put the basil, garlic, kale, and salt and pulse. Slowly add in water (you may not need it all or may need more) and keep pulsing until fully incorporated. Add pumpkin seeds to food processor and give it a good few pulses but not too much so you still have texture!

Spiralize zucchini or if you don’t have a spiralizer you can use a peeler or a cheese grater. Dump pesto mixture on top and churn and mix and twist until fully incorporated. dice tomato and add on top and sprinkle with nutritional yeast and enjoy!:)

(I ate the whole bowl shhh!)
